mayhap: Fall Out Boy as Max and the wild things (wild things)
Upon returning to our apartment, Stan and I were greeted by a suspiciously damp and gently decomposing mouse. Despite careful cross-examination, the cats are revealing nothing. (I scooped it up and took it out to the dumpster, because Stan was too busy standing screaming on tables like women in early Sixties sitcoms.) This was not particularly awesome.

However, this morning I got to hear [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle preach at her church, which was very awesome, indeed! The topic of her sermon was bread, and yes, there were even edible examples!

Sam was in town for the weekend, so he got to come with me, and we played a bit with our new Sims Mark III. So far all I've really done is make one house with myself making a healthy income from writing Dan Brown parodies such as The Lost Symbologist and The Bosch Cypher, and another house with Pete Wentz staying up all night and making inappropriate forum posts and Patrick Stump actually, you know, playing the guitar and stuff.

After finding the mouse, Stan and I suddenly found ourselves really in the mood to do some deep cleaning. Not that anything was that dirty, but ....

I caught up with the Prince of Tennis National Finals a while ago and I really liked the ending. )

As far as I'm concerned, Dear Prince is basically a love letter to fandom in all its gleeful cracky porny obssessive glory, and I just want to say, thank you. ♥

Also! Now we have a nice closed canon to write futurefic in, and the Chinese drama for quasi-AU goodness! Life is good.

I took today as my paid holiday in honor of my birthday yesterday! My aunt refused to believe that that was an actual, legitimate holiday offered by my employers. I think she's jealous.

I had a very lovely birthday. My mom made me cheesecake, as she traditionally does, and of course, cheesecake is always yummy, but this cheesecake! It was light and fluffy and melted in your mouth!

We asked her what she'd done differently. "I followed the recipe," she said. "Alton Brown said you're supposed to actually follow recipes."

"I've been telling you my entire life that you're supposed to actually follow recipes and not just go substituting and changing them all willy nilly," I said indignantly. "How come you won't believe it from me but you will believe it from Alton Brown?"

Apparently all his science-y talk was more convincing than my because I said sos.

I got Sam a Ryoma hat for Christmas and he said that he wore it to the grocery store, not expecting anyone to know what it was, and got a look of startled recognition. He got me The Golden Ass for Christmas and Troilus and Cressida for my birthday.

I haven't written much of anything besides my Yuletide story lately, so if you'd like to change that, request a drabble! Pairing and perhaps a prompt, plz.

This weekend Sam actually came to town just so we could watch the premiere of season three together. I made Fire Nation Curry for the occasion. Yeah, we are awesome.

Why don't I have an Avatar icon? Oh yeah, because I'm lazy.

[Poll #1060378]

ETA: Why must my most common typos involve failing to properly conjugate or otherwise inflect a word? Do I just type the stem and feel that I've done enough? Balanced breakfast, guys.

ETA2: Also, all the hair on Zuko's head. I don't even know what the hair on Zuko's hair would be, unless he got too impatient for it to grow out even though it does so like magically and he got a weave.

I seem to have gotten in the habit of never posting anything ever. This is probably because my life is so confusing lately that I have difficulty explaining it to myself, so what chance do I have at elucidating it for other people? But then I started to miss getting comments and realized that this strategy was suboptimal, so here goes nothing.

  • We have a glass atrium door at the back of our house. These robins keep flying into it, becoming mildly concussed, forgetting all about why this was a bad idea in the first place, and then flying into it again, so my mom has taped a faux-Burberry dog leash and an empty Tostito's bag to the door. It is slightly surreal.

  • Sam and I finished watching (rewatching, in my case) the last ~80 episodes of Prince of Tennis at a fairly terrifying pace over the past month or so. I had somehow forgotten how utterly cracktastic most of those later seasons are. I also owe Sam MomoKai makeover fic now.

  • Last night Stan and I ate dinner with our former French teacher and a close-knit group of other francophones in the Kansas City metropolitan area. One of the women there was actually visiting from Japan, so Stan decided to tell her all about my obsession with « Le prince du tennis ». I believe she thought we were both slightly odd.

We ended up spending most of the evening talking to this very adorable and precocious little girl who is totally bilingual. I know that she thought Stan was crazy, because she kept telling him that at every opportunity, in English and in French. I told her she was very astute. *g*

  • Kaidoh is hot. This always bears repeating.

Wow, I fail at updating so, so much. I'm not even entirely sure what I've been doing, because I certainly haven't been fulfilling my new year's resolution to review all the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic in fandoms beginning with the letters C-Z.

I had a most excellent birthday on Wednesday. Sam and Stan came over and made me curry for dinner and I trounced my brother's high score in Wii bowling so thoroughly that he will likely never recover (his all-time best after months of obsessive playing is 231; mine is 264).

Speaking of Stan, he found some sexy InuKai doujinshi open in a tab on my computer and was all, OMG you read gay porn on the interwebs!!1! To which my response was, well, yeah, I think that is the worst-kept secret in the universe, seeing as I have told you all about it repeatedly. But then he asked me if I could find him any good porn with Tezuka and Echizen and I blithely promised that I could and then I looked through my doujinshi folder and found nothing. I shook all the places on the internet that I could think of, and moths flew out.

I know some of you are TezuRyo fans. If you could point me in the direction of any hot TezuRyo doujinshi, the more explicit, the better, I would be eternally grateful!

mayhap: (gathering data)
Stan told I should post here more often. There is some justice to this. However, he failed to answer me when I inquired what, precisely, I should be posting. You can blame him for this post.

On Friday, I decorated my locker at work with photocopies from the Prince of Tennis manga. I put all of Seigaku along the bottom and this panel above my name:

Stan made fun of me for my Inui love and said that his heart belongs to oval glasses, not square ones. (Although I think this really just translates to him perving on Shirota, since his primary Tenipuri exposure is watching the movie twice while providing his own subtitles.) Sam concurred with him, while maintaining that Kaidoh is hotter than both of them. And thus, a pointless poll, for the collection of data:

Me: lol
Sam: you could have it say "[livejournal.com profile] mayhap. This is Inui. My data clearly indicates that I want you."
Sam: they sound similar

I'll be the first to admit that my life is pretty damn good even at the worst of times, but I don't think I have ever been quite this appreciative.

I'm thankful for things that have happened, and even more thankful for things that have not happened. But mostly I'm thankful that I have much better friends than I could ever deserve.

Also, I'm sorry I've been so quiet and/or cryptic lately! Thank you all for sharing your lives and your squee with me.

Thanks
