I just saw that my Celia/Rosalind fic was recced in an eclectic femslash roundup on The Toast. That explains the influx of fresh guest kudos! My plot to achieve extremely niche press by combining "respectable Shakespearean pastiche and naughty femslash" is working!

This is my first story for my kink bingo card, for "writing on the body", and that isn't even on any of the lines I was going to do, so I guess it's my free space.

As You Like It. Celia/Rosalind. R. 1,224 words.
Written for kink_bingo (kink: writing on the body). 'Lying prone, as if in supplication before the great god Hypnos whose worship no man can abjure long, Rosalind displayed the fine white planes of her shoulders and back to great advantage, which put Celia in mind of a fine jest.'

( The bed which Ganymede shared rustically with his sister Aliena in their rude rented cottage was not so grand as that the cousins Rosalind and Celia had occupied in their proper persons at court. )

Shakespearean fools never interest me on the page, but I have to admit that the actor who played Touchstone as if he were channeling Russell Brand really made it work for me.

Last time I read (okay, skimmed) AYLI, which was for a class, we mostly ended up discussing the M/M homoeroticism of Elizabethan transvestite theatre in general and 'Ganymede'/Orlando in particular, but the F/F homoeroticism is also really fun! I mean, it doesn't go anywhere canonically either, because Rosalind is SO MEAN to all of her girlfriends, but still.

I think it's hilarious that there are actually people complaining about the legions of hormone-addled Hiddlestoners suddenly taking an interest in the Henriad. I think it is totally endearing and, among the underaged cohort, probably going to be a great boon for their English classes/AP tests/A-levels/what have you, as well.

But then, I suppose these same killjoys would say I'm not appreciating Shakespeare in an appropriate and mature manner, either…
