In the immortal words of Dave Barry, I swear I am not making this up
I could scarcely believe it myself before I found four of them. Neither could anyone else presumably, since all the pages and clerks who were working that night all crowded around to examine them; you, dear reader, are simply going to have to take my word for it.
They lurk among our CD holdings. The actual CD has been replaced with a burned copy, with the original art and barcode number reproduced on it. (I'm still not even sure how they pull this off; perhaps one of my fair readers can enlighten me?) The actual liner notes have been replaced with a copy, printed out on an inkjet printer, with a typed-up label mimicking ours on the front. The liner notes gives the game away immediately when you know what you're looking for--where there's supposed to be a raised barcode on the inside, there's just a scanned, printed image of one.
Now, is it just me, or does that seem like a lot of effort and expense to go to, just to acquire a beat-up library CD that has been defaced with multiple stickers and markings? Whatever happened to, you know, shoplifting from stores? Isn't that cool anymore?
Kids these days. I tell you *shakes head ruefully*
