HP support guy: How can I help you today?
My dad: Um, it's a long story. Here, I have a case number, it's [numbers]. Can you look it up?
HP support guy: Sure thing.
[pause]
HP support guy: So, what can I do for you?
My dad: Well, this $950 charge just appeared on my credit card.
HP support guy: WHAT????
My dad: Yeah, that's what I said.
At least this support guy seems sincerely devoted to finding out what the hell is going on now, which is a good start. We've had this computer since the middle of December and the CD-RW drive has never worked. It has been repeatedly asserted, in all earnestness, that this is because there is a virus on the computer, which I assure you is utter tosh. My dad has been actively trying to get it fixed since I came home for spring break.
Sigh. I did tell them that if they got a Mac, they would have fewer problems, but even I wasn't expecting this level of absurdity.
