Snarking on JKR
Hee. This compendium of comments made (presumably) by J.K. Rowling incognito is rather fascinating.
Unspoilery observation: I love how her discussion of the text is always strongly colored by her authorial knowing-what-comes-next. I'd noticed this in interviews and things, too. What she frequently refers to as "clues", I would tend to term "foreshadowing, but only if you squint at it just right in hindsight".
([Name Edited]) LUPIN IS HALF BLOOD
([Name Edited]) Does anyone know the story of the Prince and the Pauper?
([Name Edited]) Who were the first Princes of Rome?
CAPSLOCK strikes again! Well, if Lupin is the Half Blood Prince, I think he's a lot more likely to survive book 7 than I had previously suspected. Princes who die aren't very useful. I think this sounds like a nice plotline for poor Remus.
(parvatipatil) Do you think anyone from Gryffindor will join the Dark Side?
([Name Edited]) they already have
([Name Edited]) how about Ron turning evil?
Evil!Ron! Hell yes! Not because I hate Roneven though he'd drive me fucking nuts if he were my friend. It's just ... again, it sounds like a good plotline. I mean, Ron's mostly been a really good friend to Harry and all, so it hardly matters if I like him. I can just see how easy it would be for him to stop being such a good friend ...
([Name Edited]) JKR reckons that harry will get upto some more kissing in the next book, who's it going to be?
([Name Edited]) methinks Ginny
([Name Edited]) Ginny resembles Lily
([Name Edited]) Harry resembles James...
Hi, I'm sorry, but that's a creepy reason to get involved with the poor girl. Also, Harry for all his faults is quite frankly a better person than his father, and he deserves for people to knock off telling him how alike they are. Please to be making this more convincing in the text, kthx.
([Name Edited]) there's several things that need resolving regarding harry and voldemort
([Name Edited]) 1) what is their REAL link?
([Name Edited]) 2) What the heck does the scar ACTUALLY signify?
([Name Edited]) 3) Do both have to die or have we read the Prophecy wrong?
([Name Edited]) 4) Now that Voldemort can touch Harry, what is JKR going to use that to show us?
([Name Edited]) and finally..
([Name Edited]) 5) what is so special about Harry's eyes?
That's what we're waiting for you to tell us, yo. ;)
Also, did anyone read the prophecy that way in the first place? Seriously.
([Name Edited]) do you guys find that most of JKR's names for new things she introduces make inexplicable sense? like you've known it all along?
(emily) what do you mean [Name Edited]?
([Name Edited]) like pensieve for example
([Name Edited]) it's a word that doesnt exist
([Name Edited]) but it make so much sense
*pets Rowling*
Yes, we like the names you come up with. You have a knack for it. (That's where a lot of fanfic falls down, to be rather frank, although it doesn't bother me or anything, it's just a big difference between canon and most fic.) Do you want a cookie? ;)
([Name Edited]) she said on her site she and Madam Trelawney had chosen the wording for the Prophecy very carefully
([Name Edited]) which more than likely means there's a meaning to it which we haven't worked out
([Name Edited]) and it makes it obvious to us that either has to die
and
([Name Edited]) is it possible JK's tricked everyone into thinking harry and/or voldemort HAS to die?
([Name Edited]) after all she did say that she and Madame Trelawney had worded the Prophecy very carefully
Buhuhwha? Seriously, are we reading the same prophecy? Also, call me crazy, but I always thought that Voldemort had to die because he was evil. I've kind of thought this since reading Philosopher's Stone. (Okay, so I read Sorcerer's Stone. It was from the library. Shoot me.) I kind of wondered why this came as such shocking news to poor Harry in OotP.
([Name Edited]) Percy jumps into the lake and pulls Ron out, looking very pale, when Harry brings him back
([Name Edited]) seems like he really cares
([Name Edited]) but in OOTP, he couldnt give a damn
([Name Edited]) Imperius Curse anyone?
See, Percy is the red herring evil Weasley. Ron will be the real evil Weasley. Perhaps.

([Name Edited]) "Harry and Hermione are very platonic [platonic means nonsexual] friends. But I won't answer for anyone else. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink." From a National Press Club Luncheon chat with JK Rowling, October 1999)
Okay. okay, I rather think that we get the point already, really we do. Only what is the poor girl meant to do with an Evil Weasley, anyway? ;)
([Name Edited]) I reckon there's probably enough in the 1st 5 books to make a very good educated guess as to the overall outcome
There's also probably enough information in today's paper to make a very good educated guess as to yesterday's crossword.
([Name Edited]) Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore now THAT is a HUGE anagram waiting to be solved..... any takers???
Ugh, not me. I hate anagrams. I suppose I could set the internet anagram thingy on it, but it doesn't know Harry Potter words, so that probably wouldn't help.
Hee. I should be nicer; I know how irritating it is to on one hand want to spill the entire story immediately and on the other hand not want to give the slightest thing away.

Perhaps not all of it is total B.S. (the significance of the name "Remus" seems very Rowling) but... all right, to be frank I just couldn't deal with it if Ron were evil... *sob*  He's been my man ever since that chess game in Book 1 where he's gonna sacrifice himself to the queen and they're all "no Ron don't do it" and he's all "well that's chess!"  Or something.

Maybe he can just temporarily evil, too. That's okay. It's like being almost dead.

A BARBARIC PELVIC WILFUL URNS
A CARABINER BLURS PC WILFUL IV
A BRAINCASE RUB VCR WILFUL LIP
When I limited the minimum word length to 3, I got:
CABBALA PRINCE FUR WILL VIRUS
BARBARIAN CUPRIC FLEW VILLUS
I can't imagine what it would come up with if Dumbledore was included. Maybe I'll try again later on when it's less busy.

(The fact that 'internet anagram server' anagrams to 'I, rearrangement servant' just tickles my brain. It's so apt. :)

Time to stop playing with the anagram engine...
But! I did run 'Albus Dumbledore' through, and I got:
BALD DOUBLE REMUS
DABBLE LOUD REMUS
BLAB DEED ROMULUS
Perhaps these have some significance. :D
(Dumbledore's name also anagrams to 'loaded bulb serum', which again cracks me up. And, best of all, if you set it to 2 word results, you get MOLDABLE SUBDUER! and AROUSED DUMBBELL! :)

Me too. I've got this big fat blue hardcover, and it looks more like a homework assignment than a fun reread. Even though I did enjoy it in the first place. And of course I have 782435248458754 other things to read...
