mayhap: hennaed hands, writing (woe)

Panicking. PANICKING.

So, I'm finishing my final assignment for my Writing for Young Readers class the night morning before it's due. This is not, in and of itself, a problem. I do my best fiction writing the night before I'm supposed to show it to someone. This is how I conducted my entire independent study last year, and it went swimmingly.

No, the problem is that my computer is possessed and it keeps eating everything I write and I don't know what to do.

I'll be writing along and agonizing over every little thing like I always do, and then suddenly Microsoft Word pops up a little message about how Autosave (which is set to run every single minute to pick up the slack for me in this particular area, because I know that I will forget) has been postponed, owing to a lack of memory or disk space (no, I am not the one who can't seem to tell the difference, Microsoft Word is).

This is where I weep, trying to remember the last time I saved for real, because everything I wrote afterwards is already wending its way to the Great Bit Bucket in the Sky.

Even though I know how futile it is, I hit command-S, so that Word can give me the exact same error message. I have memory. I have disk space. I have enough to accommodate the storage of this document many times over.

Shortly thereafter, Word unexpectedly quits.

Why is it doing this? It is a shiny, nearly new iBook, lovingly cared for by its doting owner (although I admit to being strongly tempted to hurl it across the room at this point). Et tu, Pantalaimon?

I just recovered two incredibly painful to write pages from my email, and I have to reconstruct some more painfully-written stuff before I can even get on with it.

Um. In short. Pray for me and my continued grasp on my sanity, however tenuous it may be.

Eep?

Be well, and your computer too!

I think my insane copy of Word possessed yours and took it over. Those are the exact same "features" that caused me to switch to TextEdit and AppleWorks last fall. I'm downloading a new one right now though.

Wow, that's much worse than what happened to me. My printer only took 17 minutes to print out 10 pages, and it did NOT jam. It's just THAT SLOW. And since I have a full ink cartridge and am graduating in 2 weeks, i need to use up all the expensive ink that i can, because this printer is sure as hell not invited to be a part of my life anymore.
