OotP meme
1. Describe in five words or less how you feel about Order of the Phoenix. (your initial reaction)
Love/hate relationship.
2. What are your feelings on Harry's personality? Do you think he is overly cynical, depressed, etc. . . .?
He's spot on. He makes me weep.
3. Do you think Order of the Phoenix is appropriate for children 13 and younger? Why or why not?
I suspect that 13 and unders who are mature enough to fully understand why this book is so disturbing will be able to handle it. The younger crowd may not find it as unnerving as we have.
4. List your five most hated characters (either in Book 5 or the whole series, non-humans can be included).
In book 5, then:
1. Umbridge
2. Hagrid
3. Percy
4. Cho
5. young!James and young!Sirius
5. Percy turned away from his family. Will he come crawling back to them now or . . .?
I would be disappointed if he did. I think he's chosen his path and means to stick to it.
6. What did you think of the new DADA's punishment? Why didn't Harry or Lee complain?
As many astute people observed, the shame of the abused is perfectly depicted. Besides which, the way that woman took over Hogwarts, I'm not entirely sure it would have done a blind bit of good. I continue to be impressed at how much the very image of it creeps me out.
7. What do you think of James and Lily now?
Lo and behold, they were human.
8. Has your opinion (which is probably not too good) of Petunia Dursley changed? If yes, how so?
Absolutely. I believe she has potential she's been suppressing so she can cling to Vernon and their pathetic way of life. I hope she gets a chance to do something important.
9. What's the meaning of Snape's nickname in your opinion?
The meaning's dead obvious, I should say. How about the accuracy? I'm of two minds about that.
10. What do you think of the character death? Do you think s/he will return?
"S/he," as if this meme were not all spoilery? He's dead, I believe, and not returning in any meaningful way, although the inconclusive nature of his death may allow him to participate somehow in the last two books. Don't ask me how, it's not my universe, my veil, all that jazz.
11. Do you think fanfiction will be hurt by Book 5? Do you see any new pairings arising? Do you see any huge ships falling apart?
I should hope not. Many new characters are eminently pairable. Harry/Ginny is dead to me, and perhaps to many mainstream readers, but of course as long as there are H/G zealots the ship could never fall apart. Harry/Draco is the ship of AUs and what ifs; I'm not worried about it either.
12. What was your favourite chapter in Order of the Phoenix? Why?
Honestly, I've no idea. Perhaps "St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries." But don't quote me on that.
13. Talk about Fred and George's "flight."
I'm not terribly impressed that they couldn't stick it out as everyone else did, but at least they made me laugh a bit.
14. Give some thoughts on Ron.
Ron's a nice chap and a dreadful prefect. He has his head screwed on a bit better than he did during Goblet, I think.
15. What did you think of Dumbledore's explanation?
Rubbish. Please stick to being badass in the future, Dumbledore.
16. Do you feel satisfied by this book?
Yes.
17. How anxious are you now for Book 6?
I want to know things like their O.W.L. results, but on the other hand I want to play before things take another dive. On the whole I will be quite patient and such.
