You're not insane. If Gandalf were to be paired with anyone who is not Bilbo (or, in a pairing I REALLY don't want to see, Saruman), it would definitely be Pippin. And I would even read it, were it out there. I mean, were any decent versions of it out there. I'm sure some depraved fangirl has come up with a Gandalf/Pippin monstrosity; I stumbled across an Elrohir/Elrond atrocity today (that had no pairing warning!!) so I firmly believe anything is possible in this fandom....
