So basically, it's fandom, only boring?

I seriously do not even understand the point.

[livejournal.com profile] novembersnow is doing this one now, so that means it's cool again! I've actually been writing fic lately, so I have stuff that I can commentate upon, if anyone so desires.
If you've ever watched your favorite DVDs, and then found yourself eager to hear exactly what the actors, directors, writers and even production designers thought about making the episode, the movie, or whatever - you'll know sometimes the best parts of DVDs are hearing the commentaries. Getting into an actor's feelings about the character they play, getting the background behind a writer's plans and metaphors, even just getting the stupid anecdotal stuff that makes you laugh, it's all good.

Ask me about any story, and I'll do a DVD commentary for it! Satisfy your curiosity!

Challenges

Notes to myself which conveniently double as notes to all of you about challenges I'm working on:
  • For the [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies Fantasy Fest, I told myself that I was going to claim one (1) challenge and that was it well, maybe another after I finish one for May. I absolutely, positively had to have this one:

[livejournal.com profile] marksykins -- Sanguini the Vampire/Eldred Worple. No non-con or really heavy kink, but light bloodplay related to vampirism okay. I just want Eldred getting obsessed with his writing about the vampire lifestyle. God. Please. I've been dying for this since HBP.

Seriously, after that I stopped even looking at the rest of the shiny, shiny prompts, because OMFG.

  • [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy announced [livejournal.com profile] summerwriting, a multi-fandom challenge to write a novella of at least 15,000 words over the summer. I just so happen to have this novella-sized Alias bunny involving Sark, Irina and public school that's been nuzzling at my feet for ages, and this seems like the perfect excuse to finally write it.

I just need to keep telling myself that it doesn't need to be any more accurate to attending an actual British public school in the 90s than Alias is accurate to the actual CIA, for heaven's sakes. I have issues, okay?

Incidentally, if anyone could point me at some good resources about day to day life type stuff at public schools, particularly Harrow and particularly in the 90s (that would be the 1990s, as opposed to the 1890s, which I am relatively well up on), these would be very hot gratefully received.

  • [livejournal.com profile] short_takes is an ongoing source of joy and delight. Our fandom may be tiny, but we punch well above our weight in great fic. I'm going to try to post my Jessi fic tonight, I think, although with our shiny new two-week deadlines we have until next Sunday.

Good lord, time flies when you're busy refreshing your flist. Today marks my three-year Ljversary, and, by extension, three years of actually being in fandom as opposed to lurking and stuff.

Three years ago, I: had a LiveJournal!

Two years ago, I: learned that my rabbit had died and you all comforted me.

One year ago, I: fancied Sark from Alias madly.

Today, I: am working on my story for [livejournal.com profile] short_takes.

You guys have made me laugh and made me cry. You have recommended me great books and music and even made me buy a TV (and thereby kept me from being that guy from the Onion) and learn how to read graphic novels (apparently it helps if you look at the pictures, too) and learn all kinds of not-particularly-useful Japanese vocabulary (when I go to Japan, I can talk about ... alchemy! And tennis!). You have been there when I'm down.

You make my life shiny. Thank you.

mayhap: Professor Trelawney à la the Scream (omg)
Wow, I'm smart. It just occurred to me that I am working on Saturday from 9 to 5. Saturday is, of course, the day after Friday, and Friday is, as some of you may have noted, the day for camping out at the bookstore of one's choice for snagging a copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I am so good with planning things, you have no idea.

Speaking of which, Amazon.com sent me an email a couple of days ago suggesting that perhaps I might enjoy this book called Harry Potter and the ... Goblet of Fire. Yes. Indeed. Very astute recommendation, Amazon.

I think I will mostly avoid the internet now until Saturday due to spoilers that are apparently rampant although thus far I have avoided them just fine. I've certainly not been around much during the couple weeks anyway, between one thing and another. But I'm really looking forward to reading this book and discussing it with you all behind 100% spoiler-free cut tags. :)

mayhap: closeup of Sawyer reading Watership Down with text Bunnies! (bunnies!)
All my shows are over now. I miss them already.

The last few weeks have been especially nice since I've been home. My whole family watches House, although only my mom and I know what's going on on Lost and Alias.

A few thoughts on Lost )

A few thoughts on Alias )

A few thoughts on House )

Sigh. Is it September yet?

mayhap: Ryoma working in the school library (pages do it by the books)
This is kind of like writing fanfiction, except that I'm cleverly using Microsoft Word to do it for me, because I am ill and fretful! Gacked from everybody.

I left my niftycool toothbrush in Missouri. This morning, I had to brush with my old one, which had already been demoted for pre-treating stains. It was somewhat soapy.

Last night I fell asleep at, um, seven. And then slept. Until my alarm went off this morning at seven. I guess I was kind of tired.

It's been four weeks since the squid announced their engagement and they are as smitten as ever. Bet you weren't expecting that. (I know I wasn't.)

Also, I had the best idea for a Vicky Bliss fic ever. (It would also be the only Vicky Bliss fic ever, if my many searches are any indication.) Vicky and John need to go to Oxford, for some reason or other. And of course you know that Vicky is a huge Sayers fan, and here my brain melts from sheer squee. We're talking OTPs of DOOM, here, people!

People actually visit my website.

If you had told me this before, I would have been polite, but disbelieving. After all, no one links to my website besides me. And honestly, why should they? Theoretically, I was aware that my website was freely available to then entire interweb; I just didn't imagine that anyone, you know, cared.

(Yes, I will stop linking to my website now. I mean, I already know that you guys read my drivel for whatever reason.)

But there are perfect strangers who are typing things into Google. And sometimes other search engines, but mostly Google. And Google actually foists links to my website upon these people. (See? No link!) And these people click on said links.

Sorry, but this is taking some getting used to.

Now what, you might ask, are these people searching for? And this would be a very good question. This would be, in fact, the reason I began this entry. And the answer to this question will be found behind this cut. )

The Nightmare Pairing Pledge

Courtesy of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mctabby.

I, [livejournal.com profile] mayhap, do solemnly swear that my favorite HP character is Severus Snape and my least favorite character is Vernon Dursley. The mere thought of them doing naughty things together makes me whimper. However... given sufficient crack and an infinite number of monkeys, here's how a Snape/Dursley shag might happen (though I sincerely hope it never does, and if it does, I just don't want to know).
Necessary plot device or deus ex machina: Vernon Dursley, nasty closet case that he is (who else devotes that much energy to being normal?), is looking for a gay bar and winds up in a wizarding bar instead. He stays because the robes secretly really turn him on.
Who makes the first move: Dursley propositions Snape, who is about to turn him down as soundly as every other patron of the bar that evening, when he susses out Dursley's connection to Harry Potter.
Positions and/or kinks: Snape uses Legimancy to plumb the sordid depths of Vernon's mind, only to discover that the man positively gets off on the abuse (not to mention the spanking and nappies).
Afterglow: Snape eventually discards Dursley like a used condom. He finds Harry and tells him, "Okay, you win. Your father was not the most insufferable shit ever to walk this earth, and I did not suffer more from him than any wizard before or since. Now can we shag?"
Would I actually read or write this? Um, quite possibly. But only because it'd be funny! Really!

EDIT: Also, my brother stayed home from school today to mourn the loss of his graphing calculator, which he inadvertently left behind when he took the SAT. That's just how cool my family is.
