If I were a superhero, my evil nemesis would be the sun.
Actually, I suppose that that would make me a vampire. Could a vampire be a superhero? Discuss.
Undaunted by the sun, and slathered in truly repulsive sunscreen, I headed out to the National Zoo this morning, which was exactly the sort of change of pace I was looking for.
The giant pandas were sleeping (like all sensible creatures) when I arrived at 9:00, but as I lingered to hear one of the panda keepers speak they gradually roused themselves to go about the important business of scratching one leg with the other, lapping up water, and systematically stripping off bamboo leaves. They really are immensely personable, and I can see why everyone becomes so smitten with them. Especially the keepers.
Had tons of fun generally walking around and gawking at all the lovely animals like a little kid. The giraffes are one of my especial favorites. I miss going to the zoo when I was a kid.
( See the pretty giraffes! Don't you love how they do everything symmetrically? )
In other fun news, I'm going to have to have surgery in a month or so to straighten my septum and ... um ... do something else that I forget what it is, to make some more space in my sinuses. I'm dreading it somewhat, but I figure that it has got to be better than my current hack-and-snort routine.
ETA: Also, icon!
