mayhapBarbara Mertz/Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels/one of my single favorite people in the world has died.
I can't even say how sad this makes me. Right this minute I'm house-sitting for my junior high best friend's mom, who gave me copies of The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog and Murder Must Advertise for my twelfth birthday and basically set the agenda for who I was going to read and what I was going to be going forward.

Date: 2013-08-09 06:06 am (UTC)Actually, both of her popular nonfiction books about ancient Egypt are really fun, and they were both revised fairly recently for maximum accuracy: Temples, Tombs and Hieroglyphs and Red Land, Black Land. Pair your research with Sesame Street: Don't Eat the Pictures and turn it into a homeschooling unit, or something. Sadly, you're on the wrong coast to cap it off with a trip to the Temple of Dendur.
