Important bulletins from my back porch
May. 19th, 2004 07:58 pmGood news: I can breathe again. In a manner of speaking. With my mouth closed, and everything. I'd venture to say that I can think again, too, but I have a feeling one of you jokers would question the implication that I ever had that ability in the first place.
Bad news: I am allergic to yet another antibiotic. My body, it seems, regards damn near all antibiotics with hostility and suspicion. "What're you doing?" it demands, fearfully. "Hey, are you messing with my bacteria? I was getting rather fond of that bacteria. I was planning on incubating it lovingly for weeks, at least." Then, as it gains some confidence: "Oh yeah? Well, I'll show you." Then I get hives.
Not exactly life-threatening, I know. The latest batch went away in the space of a few hours, in fact. Still, of course, one doesn't really want to push the issue with that sort of thing.
Have been prescribed another antibiotic. I will be certain to let you all know if it gives me hives, too.
My dad is going to D.C. for a week in June for work and asks if I want to come along.
Ooooh, that was a tough decision.
Also, my mom is making noises about going for a Real Family Vacation this summer. I have never, ever been on a Real Family Vacation. My family's idea of a vacation has always been to go to Sioux Falls, where my extended family lives, and thus I have never been anywhere. She asked me where we should go, and I didn't even know where to begin. Er ... where would you lot suggest we go?

Date: 2004-05-19 08:12 pm (UTC)Ooh, vacations. I *really* want to go on a vacation. Mmm. Are you flying? Driving? Do you have a particular part of the country you're thinking of?
My *favorite* family vacation was definitely when we went to Niagra Falls. Not so much because I liked the Falls themselves or the town so much, but because on the way up, I insisted we go to Seneca Falls. This was in '98, so it was the 150th anniversary of the Seneca Falls Convention, and while I'm not usually moved emotionally, really, by historical places (although I enjoy visiting them muchly), I really did get teary-eyed standing in the remains of the Wesleyan Chapel and looking at the memorial fountain and all. There's a fun museum, too. Plus, the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY is *gorgeously* scenic. I'd really like to go back.
I'd also really like to go back to Cape Cod/Provincetown, where I went with friends the year I graduated college. Also quite scenic, and way fun. (P'town is, of course, a gay mecca, but the two friends I went with were straight, and they enjoyed it, too.) There's so many neat things in the area. I'd been to the Vineyard with the fam; it's so pretty and nice there in the summer.
There's always, of course, the Jersey shore! *g*
Cumberland Falls State Park in Kentucky is very nice. Has a lovely lodge, the Falls are pretty, there's nice hiking and all in the park...
Then there's places (besides the Jersey shore) with beaches, the usual suspects: Florida, Myrtle Beach, and so on.
Williamsburg? I've never been, always wanted to go... one of my friends goes there with her family every year, so it must be entertaining enough for grown-up type families...
There's cities, of course, too -- San Francisco? :) San Diego's very nice, with the zoo, and all, and if you drive up the California coast, there are *breathtaking* views on Highway 1. (Okay, I don't really think cities are vacation-y, apparently.) New Orleans probably isn't a very family-y vacation...
*My* vacation list, right now, of places I want to go (back) to is really rather extensive. Wantwantwant. *g*
(In case you were wondering:
Coastal Spain/Barcelona.
Tuscany, Rome, and Naples.
Greek islands. And Ephesus. [Athens, meh.]
Germany, particularly Bavaria.
Prague.
Florida. Disney World, yes. :)
Cape Cod/P'town.
Finger Lakes area someplace again.
New Orleans.
And, of course, the Jersey shore! :) I'd really like to rent a shore house for part of the summer, actually, but I don't know enough people who'd want to do that to make it feasible, unfortunately...)
Okay. I will stop babbling at you now. :P
