Updating for the sake of updating and stuff

I just got my internet set up! (It was made slightly difficult by the fact that I, um, forgot the password I set on my uni account some months previous. It wouldn't take any of the passwords I remember easily, and then I came up with something that I clearly thought I would remember ... )

So overwhelmed ...

Um, so, flew to Scotland. Via Newark. The Kansas City to Newark and also waiting around Newark for hours bit took twice as long as the actual across-the-Atlantic bit, and also my seatmate was practically in my lap, but I did get here nonetheless. Read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell on the way, so scarcely noticed anything else anyway.

My dorm room is palatial compared to pretty much anything NYU ever offered to put me up in. Of course it is way the heck off to the north or somesuch but considering that the entirety of St. Andrews comprises some small number of city blocks, this is not much of a hardship. They wash my sheets and vacuum my room and empty my wastepaper basket and I am not sure I can get used to not being treated like something the cat dragged in by housing-type peoples. :D

St. Andrews so pretty. It is full of ruins and shops and things, whereas a comparably sized town in the midwest would have, like, one Wal-Mart and five identical ranch-style houses, or something. Will spam you endlessly with pictures and likely be told by UK residents, "Yes, mayhap. Those are houses. Have you never seen houses before?"

Let's see. I have been welcomed and orientated and lost and found and lost again and this afternoon at 4:00 I go around to be advised and hopefully at some point matriculated. Now I think I will go have lunch.

Oh, but! This is the cutest thing ever: mayhap Get your own here if you have not already done and be overwhelmed by the cuteness.

EDIT: Oh, and I have a TV in my room. I turned it on experimentally, and half the channels I receive seem to be in German. I have, like, MTV2 in German. WTF, mate?

NOW WITH 100% MORE EDIT: Our fire alarms are the loudest things in the history of ever. I have never actually leapt several feet out of my seat because of a fire alarm before. They are also so sensitive that they can be set off by people showering with the bathroom door open.

Note to self: Always bring coat when the fire alarm goes off. You'd rather have it and not want it than want it and not have it. Really.
