Technical bitchery
Aug. 29th, 2003 11:45 amFucking NYU won't let me use my wireless access point (AirPort) in my dorm. Their email, which was somehow addressed to my roommate who has no wireless 802.11b equipment, contains what I can only, with my reasonably technical and obsessive degree of knowledge, deem a blatant untruth:
It doesn't work that way. It just doesn't. *bangs head against the wall*
I'm not using my WAP anyway. I unplugged it and put it in my drawer. I'm using someone else's WAP which has a factory-default name and no password. If they pack theirs up and go home, I'll have to actually plug in the damn ethernet cord. I know, I know, my life is so hard. Wireless internet was keeping me sane, okay? It meant I could get stuff done even if stupid shit started going down in my room.
Now, there had better just not be any.
*glares at unseeing back of roommate, the true nature of whom is still unknown*
Update: The WAP I'm using is outside the building/off the campus network. I need not rely on NYU for my internet access at all! Score! Nobody tell them I'm on it, unless they actually wanted it to be freely accessible! Either way, I love them!
I can't access the OED this way, but shucks, how often is that really necessary? I can dig out the ethernet cord for that.
"This access point was giving out network addresses to other users at the dorm, and preventing them from obtaining normal access."
