This building has four elevators, some of which go to a more complete array of floors than others. Earlier today I absently got in one and pressed the button in the lower left-hand corner and then wandered out when the elevator door opened, much as one does when the elevator stops for someone else and you try to get out even though you haven't reached your floor yet.

I found myself in an odd, rather triangular space with a decor that was heavy on concrete, which was rather unnerving. I promptly dived back into the elevator and made it take me back up to floor G.

My roommate's boyfriend nicked a couple of gigantic shiny posters from the Express on Broadway and brought them back to our room. They feature underclothed people who seem to be trying to look sexy and provocative but merely succeed in looking uncomfortable and unhappy. One depicts a guy trying, rather literally, to get into a girl's pants, and the other features two girls who don't seem to know what they are doing with each other. They are so very, perfectly bad they are hilarious. Naturally they were promptly hung in our common space. The former one has dry erase markers hanging next to it so you can give the unenthusiastic couple some tattoo, making them much more interesting.

The year 1000 in Britain is kicking my ass eight ways from Sunday. It keeps taunting me: "That's before the Norman Conquest, you realize? Do you know who Æthelred the Unready was, and why he was unready? Have you got the slightest idea what all these ethnic groups or what have you were up to, and how this fits into where the Founders are supposed to come from? Could you find any of these places on a map with the names taken off?"

"I admit it! I admit it! I learnt everything I know about the subject from 1066 and All That!" I responded, finally.

Well, I did recall a helpful-looking book on the subject from the library a couple of days ago, and I found some nice maps of that period online and I haven't the slightest intension of letting anyone take the names off. Maps without names on them are useless and no one should be expected to make anything of them.
