mayhap: hennaed hands, writing (I am sometimes plagued by plotbunnies.)
The Year 1000's done well by me, getting me into the mindset of just what is and isn't going on. It certainly does get me to thinking, though: how different would this setting have to be, if it had wizards in it? Even a small number of wizards, even wizards who keep to themselves, who are withdrawing from the Muggle world slowly but surely (complete separation in 1692, a good 700 years later).

The magical beasts fit in perfectly as the sort of thing folk believed in, lurking in the background and having various positive and negative effects according to their natures. The wizards though, even if they wield magic that is primitive in comparison with what we see in the contemporary HPverse (and that's the average wizard, mind; the Founders are rather a cut above that), are intelligent people with a great deal of power and agency to achieve much, much more than Muggles aspired to.

In terms of international relations (i.e., why didn't so-and-so get the wizards to kick thus-and-such's arse?) I suppose the answer is that everyone had their wizards, and they canceled each other out. In terms of day to day struggling, though, I'm still thinking about what quotidian existence should be like in order to be true to the spirit of the age and the HPverse at the same time.

I don't know what I am doing. I cannot write now, I grow deranged. I should go to sleep.

Also: Helga Hufflepuff very important character. She is the kick-arse mover and shaker who really gets Hogwarts going. It is canon :

"She brought people from different walks of life together to help build Hogwarts and was loved for her charming ways."

Okay, so that's just off one of those dodgy Famous Wizard cards from the Electronic Arts games that Merlin only knows the provenance of. Still, Helga does not deserve to be neglected so.

Besides, she clearly has some vigorous, conquering Norse heritage going on.

Aww, bunnies.

Don't be fooled, though. They only look cute and innocent.
