My mother's still abed, and at the moment, asleep as well. Hard to say how things shall be tomorrow.

We've been doing a number of holiday-ish things to try to turn the Christmas That Wasn't into the Christmas That Was, Really. We put a fire in the fireplace and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas on DVD. (Yes, the Chuck Jones cartoon! What do you take us for, savages?) We made gingerbread men (and, er, gingerbread dinosaurs). We drank a couple of cartons of egg nog, even. However (with possible exception of egg nog) this is not precisely What We Do on Christmas, so it still felt rather odd.

We were playing cribbage when I noticed that the stockings hanging on the mantle had something in them. Our family never did Santa Claus, although we opened gifts from our fellow family on Christmas Eve and did get stockings stuffed by Grandma on Christmas morning, but the stockings we had at our house had pretty much always been for decoration. I guess I don't know if my mom had done them before being bedridden, or if she got my dad to do it, but that was nice. Mine had nuts and a couple those chemical hand-warming packets and a Woodstock Pez dispenser with Pez refills.

My dad and brother and I also went to see Peter Pan, which was, of course, fabulous. Mmm.
