potentialities

Today was my first day back at work after Christmas, four days flat on my back with the cold somebody gave me for Christmas, and New Year's. I listened to my seven-hour backlog of Global News podcasts from the BBC World Service in reverse chronological order and they began and ended with the top story that Laurent Gbagbo was refusing to step down despite international pressure, so that was a bit timey-wimey.

I wrote The Magicians this year for treewishes for yuletide! I like that all four of us who wrote in the fandom did female character-centric stories: mine is a Julia story, and there are two perfect Alices, one inter and one post, and a Jane Chatwin story that is also, appropriately, rather timey-wimey.

Goblin Market is one of my absolute favorite poems of all time; I remember reading it out loud to myself when I discovered it because the words were so delicious I had to put them in my mouth. While I was flailing around, trying to decide what I was going to write because there is so much there to work with, I also listened to this Creative Commons-licensed recording by Jane Aker repeatedly for purposes of inspiration and delight. I am thrilled and flattered by everyone who enjoyed the final result!

Written for kink bingo (kink: caning). "In this room I am not a prince, therefore it is permissible for you to strike me," Horace recited hastily.

( Jemmy reckoned that he could rightly be figured some sort of expert in the field of whippings, having been on the receiving end of so many licks during his service as whipping boy to the notorious Prince Brat, but handing them out was something that he was still getting used to. )

It's really 2009, because the Yuletide reveals are up! (In between that and 12:00 AM, we're all in a sort of temporal anomaly.)

I can now thank thermidor by name for writing my adorable Schmidt story, and rabidsamfan for stuffing my stocking with a Hilary/St. George drabble (which seems to have interested other people in the pairing, muahahaha!).

I wrote Relics for comixologist. It was a delight to write Anathem fic after the book ate my brain a few months ago, although it was hard not to babble about the book and my awesome assignment for months on end. I cannot in good conscience recommend that anybody read my fic if they haven't read the book as I am a devout spoilerphobe, but you should read the book! Here is some awesome mood music based on math.

Mmm, all the lovely Inui/Tezuka doujinshi I've been reading (or, in the case of the raws, confusedly but happily ogling) have reminded me how much I adore them. Total self-indulgent PWP.

Incidentally, I've been contending with a cable internet connection that works intermittently at best, and all I can say is, I would like Inui to do all my technical support.
