On the Arrival of Pigeons

mayhapA pigeon just came this close to entering my bedroom. It perched and stuck its head in, but evaluated the possibilities offered by my room and decided to go elsewhere.
I debated sharing this with you all, but I remembered the sage advice of Darwin's editor friend, Whitwell Elwin, upon reviewing the manuscript of On the Origin of Species and suggesting a possible alternate subject matter: "Everyone is interested in pigeons."
And if you haven't yet Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, why not?
