On the Arrival of Pigeons
Aug. 31st, 2003 05:31 pmA pigeon just came this close to entering my bedroom. It perched and stuck its head in, but evaluated the possibilities offered by my room and decided to go elsewhere.
I debated sharing this with you all, but I remembered the sage advice of Darwin's editor friend, Whitwell Elwin, upon reviewing the manuscript of On the Origin of Species and suggesting a possible alternate subject matter: "Everyone is interested in pigeons."
And if you haven't yet Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, why not?
