The setup:

Back when I was a pretentious fourteen-year-old taking French I, I briefly began saying "Salut!" instead of "Hi!" to members of my family. Oddly, my mom took to this like a house afire (at least, once I explained it). To this day, my mom, my brother Danny, and even my dad now say "Salut!" instead of any other applicable greeting when we talk to each other.

(In bunny talk, this is rendered "Thawoo!" Bunnies speak French too, apparently.)

The joke:

Today, I told my mom to get on AIM so I could send her a link. She greeted me thusly:

My dad used to sign all of his IM conversations "Love, dad", which was cute, so I never corrected him. My mom goes totally overboard with the smileys on a regular basis. On the whole, though, it's better than having them try to call me all the time.

My dad does that too. At least now he does it only at the end of the conversation instead of after every post. He still can't grasp the concept that this is a "conversation", and tries to write a whole small letter with every post hehehe

I heard her laughing hysterically about it from the other room before I could even click on the message. So far as I know, she does not think that I am a slut, but perhaps if she knew how often I offered to have people's babies over the internet, she might change her mind. ;)

It's unaccountably amusing to call someone Mary Bastard. I don't know why.
